What’s in…What’s out.

What’s in….

Comic-Con is here this weekend!  The Providence convention center will be here all weekend!  Join Lou Ferrigano (the hulk)  and many more for a fun filled event.  Over 90,000 people are expected to turnout at this years Comic-Con event! Now through Sunday!

Veteran’s day 2017…Its Veteran’s day weekend and what better way to honor our veterans than with a parade. North Kingstown pulls out all the stops on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Let us not forget our veterans who stood tall and fought for our country. We owe them our freedom.

WREATH LAYING CEREMONIES SLATED FOR SATURDAY

The commemoration of Veterans Day in North Kingstown will begin at 9:30 AM, Saturday, November 11 with wreath laying ceremonies at the Civil War Memorial on the grounds of the town hall located at 80 Boston Neck Road and at the memorials at the nearby Veterans Memorial Park to pay homage to the nation’s war dead.

THE NORTH KINGSTOWN ANNUAL PARADE SLATED FOR 10 AM

Parade marchers will start forming 9 AM at Wilson Park and the parade will start at 10 AM. The parade route follows West Main and Brown Streets through Wickford Village to Boston Neck Road and then onto Fairway Drive to North Kingstown High School for the concluding ceremonies which are expected to begin at 11 AM.

In case of inclement weather, the wreath laying ceremonies will go forward at 11 AM. In addition, wreath laying ceremonies will go forward at the World War Memorial at Updike Park in Wickford Village at 11 AM.

Amazon fever….It’s on…the great race to get Amazon to Rhode Island has begun. Proposed sketches have been released showing a different landscape of the Rhode Island State House which shows the proposed plans to locate in Providence. Hundreds of jobs will come to Rhode Island, something that everyone has been promising but never deliver! So let’s put in our thinking caps and try to do it right this time. We are still waiting to see those cranes in the sky!

Lt. Governor Dan McKee announced his bid for re-election… This week McKee made it official that he will indeed run for re-election as Lt. governor. This sets up a primary election between him and Rep. Aaron Rugenberg. It will be interesting to see who gets the Democratic endorsement in a State Committee that is controlled by the House of Representatives. McKee is best known for his advocacy for charter schools which was never a union initiative but very popular amongst the electorate.

Election Season 2018….The announcements are starting for the local races of State Representative, State Senator, and City Council…Throughout the state, local candidates are making their announcements to run against incumbent elected officials. Look for more women to enter the races this year with a steady record of success! Women are finally taking their place in government. I’ve always believed a woman’s place was in the “House”, “ House of Representatives, that is”.

What’s out….

The embattled Vice Chair of the Democratic Party, Joe DeLorenzo, has left the Democratic Party. He will be an independent now! But don’t count Joe out, he will continue to stay involved in state and local races, something that he has always done. He is a veteran political operative who knows where “ all the bodies are buried” as they say, and will be an outspoken voice in this year’s elections. It may be getting cold, but it will be getting hotter soon!

Terror in Providence…As of now, all we know is that Thursday morning was the scene of a police shooting on Route 95 in Providence. Facebook videos have surfaced showing a shooting which resulted in one man dead and a woman in critical condition.
We do not have all the details yet, but a separate incident also took place involving a state police cruiser being stolen by another man who was being transported to court. Drivers and witnesses were terrified as they saw this take place. It just proves that you can be anywhere today and not be safe. Prayers and best wishes for all involved in this chaotic episode. At times like this, you need to hug your family tighter.
